About This Project

2:1 through merging dance and theatre is a tale of power, choice, representation, gender and the gaze. This is a collaboration between choreographer Rachael Nanyonjo (artistic director of Kansaze Dance) and Writer Emma Dennis-Edwards and was developed with the help from the London Hub’s Pitch It bursary and supported by Arts Council England and Rich Mix Theatre.

 

2:1 uses real stories to depict the journey of Alex and Alex as they embark into the battlefield known as the arts industry. Through merging dance and theatre 2:1 is a tale of power, choice, representation, gender and the gaze. This is a collaboration between choreographer Rachael Nanyonjo (artistic director of Kansaze Dance) and Writer Emma Dennis-Edwards and was developed with the help from the London Hub’s Pitch It bursary.

 

Rachael Nanyonjo is a London based dance artist, choreographer and founder of Kansaze Dance which was formed in 2011 with the aim of creating innovative contemporary dance physical theatre that responds to socio-cultural themes through collaborating with different art forms. As a dance artist she has worked with Wayne McGregor|Random Dance, East London Dance, Dance Woking and Roehampton University. Rachael a the recipient of the London Hub Pitch it Bursary 2013 and has been selected for the Dance UK’s mentoring programme for future leaders in in dance 2014.

 

Emma Dennis-Edward is an Actress and Playwright.
Emma was one of the writers selected for the Oval House Theatre and English Pen writers group and went on to have her debut plays Spice and Dreams of a Scholar produced as part of the Oval House Theatre’s 33% Festival earlier this year. Emma is currently on the Lyric Hammersmith Young Writer’s programme.
